I’m going to go through the final gathering of camping supplies this weekend. Do to at least 3 moves in the past 2 years, my camping supplies are scatter throughout the house and beyond. I know I have an extra cot, but the search for it has not resulted in its location. Therefore, at least for now I will only have one cot for myself. Troy, I would suggest unless you have one of your own…..
    Camping supplies:
    1. Sleeping bag
    2. Two propane lanterns
    3. One LED solar lantern
    4. One Tent Heater (propane)
    5. One Outdoor heater (propane)
    6. Camp-fire Grill?
    7. Tent (teepee type)?
    8. Griddle
    9. Portable propane grill.
    10. Smoker
    Food plan:
    1. two Tri tips
    2. 10 Gallons of water
    3. 1 Gallon of milk
    4. 1 half gallon of Broguiere’s chocolate milk.
    5. Cereal, Bread, bacon, eggs.
    6. Cheap-ass coffee.
I’m not focusing on the vegetables yet, I figured the Rodgers will have that covered as well as what ever tofu items they want to smoke. I know my meat will be consumed by Troy and I, but what ever items can fit with The Rodgers dietetic needs, I try to accommodate.

I should be able to bring all of said supplies, including Troy.

Mike’s post moved from the commenting section:

“Well I know the gathering is less than a month away, still wanted to some planning. I will most likely not be heading down this weekend. Unless my mothers condition worsens. If that is so, I will drop off the tent on the way down there. In the mean time I’m going to put it up tonight to get some true measurements. With that being said, what structures are going to be out there?
    Tent.
    Fezmongers Tent?
    Fez O Rama booth?
    EZ-up?

Im brining pretty much all the cooking/stoves we will need. However i only have one Griddle.
    1 smoker.
    3-4 tri tip steaks.
Post what ever else your bringing.

Also I wanted to confirm that Jason and Maya are arriving on Saturday the 16th rather than Friday the 15th? Yes/no? Also my plan is still to head out Friday morning, and arrive hopefully around noon-ish. That includes picking up Troy at his place and heading up. No sense in Taking 2 cars I say! Arrive at the site….. Stake our claim (or what ever the tickets have reserved for us….) build the tent, map out the compound for the FezObooth. As with all Tiki Events, I will be brining, a laptop, connection, and Bose Wave. system. Also come to find out there is power at the campsites. However, my stuff is completely off grid and I like to not have to rely on ”the tiki” for power. So, its solar powered cell charges gas lamps and gas/charcoal grills for me.”

I have a sleeping bag and… well, that’s it. Other than the food and water and change of clothes, I don’t anticipate needing more. Everything that’s been even remotely camping-like in my experiences just involve be sacking out in my Element, which I might add is a viable Plan B for transportation (not sure of the packed dimensions of the tent). Don’t worry about the extra cot, I fold up onto just about anything, as Jason and Maya can attest to when previously crashing on their old chairs salvaged from the University Union.

I’m bringing enough food for the both of us. I would suggest maybe a cheap air mattress. The packed tent is less than 3 feet long by a 1 foot across. I’m moving charcoal, grill things and other even firewood on the roof rack. Yeah, I’ve done this before. Not to mention a large cooler. I’m brining enough food for myself and to share. No MRE’s.

  • Avatar Image Stickmann said 1 year, 2 months ago:

Hey, thanks! But I’ll also bring foodstuffs too to share. And, really? 3′x1′dia. is all the size the folded tent takes? Huh. Impressive. How big is the assembled tent? and is the surface paintable?

  • Avatar Image ikabod said 1 year, 1 month ago:

Yes the tent does compress into that little bag! It does take an advanced math degree to cram the tent inside the bag but testing of the build and strike did go pretty well. I hate cramped tents where the fabric at some point always seems to rest on my face during the evening. This why I went with the tee pee tent of awesome-nous. So big in fact that it allows for rental space for offices, and storage of large wooden flying boats built by wealthy crazy people. I have contacted the Folks at the Mojave Camp site. We may have a little wiggle room regarding our allotment. I think we will be able to use the tent to its full potential. Plus my tri tip may smooth over our encroachment into other camp sites anyway. I’m wondering the charge to simply purchase the adjoining camp site next to us (how this jeopardises the camp site we have reserved is unknown) . Waiting to hear back if that is an option, and how much it would cost. I’m bringing about 5 tri tips for us and to share with others, one way or another the Cult of the Eye circus tent will prevail! Or we just go with the Fezmongers 10X10 tastefully retro canvas tent. The tent is packed away anyway, its cancellation as our tent for the weekend would be no skin off my teeth. Hopefully I should hear back from the powers that be, regarding the real estate matters.

Since the Tiki Tent has succumbed to cancellation due to its awesome size. We move on to more direct matters of the event.
Scheduling: I plan on leaving early (5am) on the 15th of April. Pick up Troy and head up to the Event site. Secure the camp site, establish communications, start smoking ika-tip (tofu if its on this initial trip). If I can pull off a web cam I’ll do it.

Picked up the vintage tent today. Will try to set it up and check it out this weekend. We’ll need to coordinate to get it to Troy’s for your pick-up on the 15th

  • Avatar Image Stickmann said 1 year, 1 month ago:

Well, I shall pick up the tent from Jason before the 15th, surely. Would it be allowable and advisable if I were to drive up to Ventura on the evening of the 14th and crash at Mike’s place that night so we can ameliorate some of the cramped scheduling? (I have one of my licensure examinations that day, one of several I’m taking this month/in April, until 5pm, but can be ready to head on up after dinner.)
