Another building of the Googie Architectural period is under new ownership. Things are moving quickly as the new owners may start taking the cool decor and replace it with “gasp” southwestern shit! The Los Angeles Conservancy reports that: “The City of Vernon has no protections for its historic resources. There is no legal way to prevent the continued loss of La Villa Basque’s exceptionally intact design.” For those of you who have been to tiki Oasis for the last 4 years know what happens when new management takes over….. It used to be call the Hanalei…. Now its the Crown Plaza, with a large part of the hotel remolded into the so-called “business friendly” southwestern shit. If you cant make it down there in March or anytime soon. Try to make it down there when you can. I just don’t want this little piece of history go away like the rest of these googie inspired properties. Enough already!
